Lithium Sulfur Batteries, Lithium-sulfur batteries offer high energy density and lightweight storage for electric vehicles and portable devices.

Lithium Sulfur Batteries (Li-S) are a type of next-generation battery with a high theoretical energy density, potentially 2-3 times higher than that of conventional lithium-ion batteries. They utilize sulfur as a cathode and lithium metal as an anode.

The key advantage of lithium sulfur batteries is the abundance and low cost of sulfur compared to the cobalt and nickel used in traditional cathodes. However, the technology faces challenges such as a short cycle life and the "polysulfide shuttle" effect, which causes the active material to leak from the cathode. Despite these hurdles, ongoing research is making progress, and their lightweight nature makes them a promising candidate for applications in aviation, drones, and satellites.
