Garchomp ex Deck Guide – Celestial Guardians Strategy

0
4

Garchomp ex (A2a-047) and Rampardos (A2-089) form one of the most explosive double Stage 2 shells in Celestial Guardians, enabled by the Rare Candy-like card A3-144. This deck lets you pivot between two powerful strategies: sniping the Bench with Garchomp ex’s Linear Attack or delivering flat 130 damage with Rampardos for just one Energy. Low retreat costs on both attackers give you flexibility to shift win conditions as the game evolves, making it a strong choice for aggressive play in ranked.

Setup and Evolution Choices

You always start with Gible (A2-121), your only Basic. Your first priority is to find A3-144, which lets you skip Stage 1 evolution entirely. This turns a double Stage 2 deck into a lean, explosive engine. Ideally, you evolve Gible into Garchomp ex as early as possible—its Linear Attack chips the Bench and builds pressure, eventually ramping to 100 damage. However, if you draw Rampardos and A3-144 early, don’t hesitate to go for the 130-damage swing. The choice depends on the matchup: against high-HP threats like A2-110, Rampardos is stronger, while the mirror match calls for sniping the opponent’s Cranidos (A2-144) with Garchomp ex.

Always attach Energy to Gible or Gabite (A2a-046) first. This preserves the option to power up Garchomp ex’s three-Energy attack later. If you don’t have A3-144 yet, use Professor’s Research (PROMO-007) to dig deep, and consider baiting out hand disruption from your opponent. Evolve Gible to Gabite before searching with a draw supporter—that way you only dig for Garchomp ex. The same goes for evolving Cranidos into Rampardos Stage 1 (A2-088) before searching for Rampardos.

Midgame and Closing Strategy

Your ideal board has Garchomp ex pressuring the active spot while Rampardos builds on the Bench. Use Pokémon Communication (A2-146) to find whichever Stage 2 you’re missing—search for Rampardos’s pre-evolution if you started with Garchomp, or vice versa. Save Cape (A2-147) and a defensive tool like A3-155 to survive key turns, especially after Rampardos’s recoil or when protecting your Cranidos from Bench snipes.

For the final push, use Sabrina (A2-150) to pull a vulnerable target into the active spot and finish it with Garchomp ex’s Linear Attack or Rampardos’s direct hit. Manage your prize path carefully: Garchomp ex gives up two points when KO’d, while Rampardos gives up one. If Garchomp ex falls, you cannot afford to lose Rampardos afterward. In rare games, you might need to sacrifice Gible first, then Rampardos, before committing Garchomp ex—or run two Rampardos first and clean up with Garchomp.

Core Card Roles

  • Gible (A2-121): Your only starter; avoids Grass weakness from other sets.
  • Gabite (A2a-046): One-of Stage 1 with a one-Energy attack for flexibility.
  • Rampardos Stage 1 (A2-088): Single copy to evolve Cranidos.
  • Garchomp ex (A2a-047): Primary bench sniper, best early.
  • Rampardos (A2-089): Finisher with 130 damage for one Energy.
  • A3-144: The engine that enables double Stage 2 by skipping Stage 1s.
  • Cranidos (A2-144): Vulnerable Fossil that evolves into Rampardos.
  • Professor’s Research (PROMO-007): Core draw. One Pokémon Fan (PROMO-005) helps find second Gible without cluttering draws.

Flexible additions include a second defensive tool (A3-155) for extra survivability, Lucario (A2b-071) to push Rampardos’s damage to 150, and hand disruption like Team Flare Grunt (PROMO-006). You can cut Cape and pal pad (A2b-069) if you prefer a leaner build, but they improve consistency.

Weaknesses and Risks

This deck is high-variance: missing evolutions, especially without A3-144, can lose you the game. Cranidos is easily sniped by Greninja or Hitmonlee. Point management is crucial—one misplay with Garchomp ex’s two-prize cost can swing the game. Play clean, sequence carefully, and you’ll dominate fast-paced matchups.

With tight sequencing and matchup awareness, Garchomp ex plus Rampardos rewards skilled players who know when to pivot between precision and power. It’s a top-tier pick for the current ranked meta.
