In a development that has sent ripples through the cricketing world, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have officially confirmed that left-arm pacer Yash Dayal will not participate in the upcoming IPL 2026 season. Lotus365 Login The announcement comes just days before the defending champions are set to begin their title defense against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 28.

While the franchise cited a "personal situation" for his absence, the underlying cause is a series of grave legal allegations that have sidelined the 28-year-old cricketer since the conclusion of the 2025 season.

The Official Statement from RCB

During a pre-season press conference on Tuesday, RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, addressed the mounting speculation regarding Dayal’s absence from training camps and promotional materials.

"Just to confirm that Yash will not be joining up with the squad. As you know, he is going through a personal situation currently. We’ve been very supportive of Yash to date... He remains under contract and will continue, in the short term, foreseeable to remain under contract. It has been decided that it is not in his best interest, or the franchise’s best interest, for him to join up with us at this point."

Why is Dayal Still Under Contract?

One of the most discussed aspects of this news is why RCB has chosen to retain Dayal's contract despite the severity of the charges. Legal and sporting experts point to three primary reasons:

  1. BCCI Replacement Rules: Under current IPL guidelines, a team can only seek an injury replacement if a player is medically unfit. Since Dayal’s absence is due to "personal/legal" reasons rather than a physical injury, RCB cannot technically replace him in the squad.

  2. Sub Judice Protections: Terminating a contract while a case is still in court (sub judice) can expose a franchise to "wrongful termination" lawsuits if the player is eventually acquitted.

  3. Support vs. Association: By keeping him "under contract but away from the squad," the franchise maintains its legal obligations while ensuring that a player facing such allegations is not the face of the team on the field.

A Timeline of the Allegations

Yash Dayal’s legal troubles began shortly after he helped RCB secure their maiden IPL title in 2025.

  • July 2025: An FIR was registered in Ghaziabad where a woman accused Dayal of sexual exploitation under the pretext of marriage. The Allahabad High Court eventually granted a stay on his arrest in this specific case.

  • Late July 2025: A far more serious case emerged in Jaipur. A complaint was filed under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act. A minor alleged that Dayal sexually exploited her over a two-year period, promising to help her cricket career.

  • December 2025: A special POCSO court in Jaipur rejected Dayal’s anticipatory bail plea, citing the seriousness of the charges involving a minor.

  • February 2026: Despite the ongoing legal battle, Dayal married content creator Shweta Pundir in a private ceremony in Noida.

Impact on RCB’s Title Defense

Losing Dayal is a significant tactical blow for the defending champions. The left-armer was a vital cog in their 2025 victory, taking 13 wickets at crucial junctures. With Dayal out and Josh Hazlewood also expected to miss the opening matches due to fitness concerns, the bowling burden now shifts heavily onto veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar and domestic talents like Rasikh Salam and Mangesh Yadav.

As the legal proceedings continue in the Rajasthan High Court, Yash Dayal’s cricketing future remains in a state of total uncertainty. For now, the "Bold" franchise moves forward with a 24-man squad, leaving a ₹5-crore hole in their roster that cannot be filled until the legal cloud clears.

Disclaimer: The allegations against Yash Dayal are currently under investigation in a court of law. He remains innocent until proven guilty.
